A farm kid’s lesson about getting ready for harvest… and Easter.

Spring break is coming. Easter is coming too, but we don’t always anticipate it the same way. That’s part of what Lent is meant to change.

Lent always reminds me of growing up as a farm kid in central Illinois. As harvest approached, everything shifted. Equipment came out of storage, repairs were made, and we figured out who would drive what. Harvest wasn’t a spectator season, because everyone had a role, even my grandma, listening in with her radio in the kitchen, making extra sandwiches for the workers.

Anticipation was very real because you could walk the fields and get a sense of how the crop looked, but you never truly knew what you had until the combines started and the grain hit the scales. Shouldn’t we be even more hopeful for a bountiful harvest in hearts here in our community than the Klein family was for a great corn crop? Certainly.

In a similar way, we can partially see that God is already at work preparing hearts around us, and we have faith that He is up to even more than we can see. Easter is one of those moments when we get to see the harvest in the form of families visiting, kids hearing about Jesus, and people hearing the clear, beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ.

Jesus said it this way: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” (Matthew 9:37)

Jesus spoke those words to His disciples, but the invitation still stands for us today. Will we step into the disciple-making work of His harvest?

We can invite friends, neighbors, and coworkers to join us for Easter worship. Easter is one of the times when people are most open to walking into a church. We can pray for the pastors across Crosspoint as they prepare to share the gospel clearly and faithfully, and we can step into the field ourselves.

Whether it’s welcoming newcomers with the love of Christ on the Guest Services Team, creating a place where kids can hear and experience the good news of Jesus with us in Crosspoint Kids, or supporting the service by clicking buttons with the Production team, these simple roles help create moments where people encounter Jesus!

On the farm, harvest meant longer days and extra hands, but it was joyful work because you knew what was coming in. God is already growing something in people’s hearts. This Easter, we have the chance to be part of gathering it.

The harvest is real, and the invitation is still open. Join us. Let’s get ready!
