Bluewater Bay Campus eLetter
From Our Campus Pastor
This Sunday is Palm Sunday. On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem, and people celebrated. The day is the beginning of what we refer to as Holy Week. It is a beautiful week to celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord & Savior. For me, the interesting thing is that while people celebrated the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, Jesus knew that He was journeying towards an execution that Roman authorities called crucifixion. Its description reveals the fact that it is a horrible way to die. And yet the Cross is the means for Jesus to conquer death and bring resurrection that is available for all of humanity.
That is why one of my favorite passages of scripture is Mark 10:45 –
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus says this in response to two of his disciples who were asking for places of honor in the kingdom of glory. He knew their hearts and asked if they could drink the cup He was drinking from, and whether they could be baptized with His baptism. They answered that they could without fully understanding what they were committing to! They were committing to “death,” to “crucifixion,” to giving their lives to others. The old me is gone, the one that wants honor, and the new me has come, the one willing to give my life away by serving others. And if you believe like I do, you recognize that it’s not “your life” anyway!
That’s who Jesus was, and is, and will always be.
How about you?
Let’s start the celebration of Holy Week by remembering that the true way to honor is by the giving of oneself first to Jesus and then to others. I saw this last week, beautifully lived out on a day we call Crosspoint Serve Day. But I also see it every day in the people who call Crosspoint home. Let’s continue to look for opportunities to give ourselves away to be just like Jesus.
