From Our Kids Minister
Hi Families!
September is here, school is back in full swing, routines are settling in, and if your family is anything like mine, it feels like things are constantly changing.
New teachers. New schedules. New activities. New friendships. I know it’s cliché, but I am definitely feeling the whole “kids grow up way too quickly” thing I was warned about when I first started having kids.
But here's something our kids (and we!) desperately need to know: God doesn't change.
This month in Crosspoint Kids, we're beginning a new theme all about that truth: God is unchanging. And I love how relevant this truth is—not just for our kids, but for all of us.
Our memory verse for the month is: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8
I love this truth for our kids because their world can sometimes feel unpredictable, but if we’re being real, ours can too.
Plans change. Friendships change. Feelings change. Jobs change. Seasons change. But the God who created the heavens and the earth never changes.
Maybe you're walking through a season right now that looks completely different than you thought it would. Maybe something you've prayed for hasn't happened yet. Maybe you're navigating a change you didn't choose. Or maybe life is really good right now—but you know how quickly circumstances can shift.
Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that our confidence isn't found in everything around us staying the same. Our confidence is found in a God who does.
The same God who has been faithful before is faithful today. His character hasn't changed. His promises haven't changed. His love hasn't changed. And when everything around us feels uncertain, we can anchor ourselves—and teach our kids to anchor themselves—in what we know to be true about Him.
And really, that's all I wanted to share with you today. I hope this simple reminder encourages you or maybe even gives you something to share with a friend who needs it today.
But because what would an email from your Kids Ministry Coordinator be without a family resource?! I couldn't let you go without giving you something practical to try at home with your family!
Family Conversation Guide
This week, find a few minutes in the car, around the dinner table, or before bed and talk about some of these questions together:
• What is something that has changed in your life this year?
• How do you usually feel when something changes unexpectedly?
• What are some things we know are always true about God?
• Can you think of a time when God took care of you or our family?
• How can remembering that God never changes help us when something around us does?
And grown-ups, don't be afraid to answer the questions too! Letting our kids hear how we trust God through change can be just as meaningful as hearing their answers. You don't have to have the perfect answers. Sometimes a five-minute conversation in the car is enough to plant a truth they'll remember when they need it most.
As we begin a new month together, my prayer is that our kids don't just learn that God is unchanging—they begin to understand the security that comes from knowing they can always trust Him.
And, well, maybe that's my prayer for us grown-ups this month, too.
